The images often come from different countries and time spans, but regardless of their origins or location, ancient fertility symbols have helped women become pregnant for thousands of years!

Egyptians often regarded both pets and amphibians as symbols of fertility. Because of their fertility, cats were often regarded as symbols of fertility. Those not as loved as felines, frogs were also seen as symbols of fertility because of their frequent ability to appear in large numbers.

The embracing of frogs as symbols of fertility has also been embraced by Native
Americans.

From African culture comes ancient fertility symbols that are represented in different forms that may depict images of a mother holding a child, a woman with multiple breasts, a crescent moon, or a fertility doll. From these symbols come not only the promise of fertility and healthy offspring, but also hope for those who have experienced problems with pregnancies in the past.

Ironically, both Christians and pagans have embraced a belief in Ancient Fertility Symbols, as evidenced through many of their observations. Many houses of worship representing different faiths and located throughout the world have displayed figures of babies. For hundreds of years, these have represented the symbolism of God’s promise to believers that they will be blessed abundantly with healthy babies who live long lives, prosper and be happy.

Similarly, many pagan beliefs have infiltrated Christian beliefs especially with those associated with the observance of Easter and the promise of a family resulting from the union of a holy matrimony resulting from marriage.

For Christians, Easter represents a renewal of life, with the accompanying pagan symbol depicted through an Easter Bunny because of the reputation rabbits have for procreation. An Ancient Fertility Symbol is also seen through the tradition of throwing rice at weddings, because of the grain’s ability to bring life to millions through its nourishment.

Animals are often used as fertility symbols throughout the world. The representation is not limited to cats, bunnies or frogs alone, but also other animals such as dogs, horses and even mythical animals because of their ability to produce life. While these symbols are seen only as objects to some, those who believe in their power have reaped the benefits of fertility that they can bring.

The common trait among all of the different symbols is that they all point to the origins of life that is the Earth. Regardless of the promise or hope they bring, each culture’s ancient fertility symbols always is a representation of a living being, crop or people that represent Planet Earth!
